SUBJECT: NATIONAL UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX LEAGUE AWARDS

The Very Rev. Protopresbyter Stephen Hallick-Holutiak Senior Recognition Award, Metro J. Baran Award, Senior Chapter Achievement Award and Distinguished National Service Award are presented at the annual UOL Convention.  The required forms for the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Stephen Hallick-Holutiak Senior Recognition Award, the Metro J. Baran Award and the Annual Chapter Report are enclosed.  There is no standard form for the Distinguished National Service Award.  The National Executive Board receives numbered forms from the Awards Chair with the undisclosed name of the nominee, parish, and form signatures.  Voting is done by the National Executive Board by secret ballot. 

❖ SENIOR RECOGNITION AWARD ❖

This award is presented to the most deserving Senior UOL member for outstanding work in the UOL of his or her parish.  The award is to recognize the achievements of a Senior UOL member “within no specific time period”, as directed by the 1990 Convention body.  The recipient will be selected by the National Executive Board from the enclosed forms.  Therefore, no current National Executive Board member is eligible. If no outstanding candidate exists, the award will not be presented. If the parish priest, chapter officers or members would like to comment further, we encourage them to send an additional letter with the application.

METRO J. BARAN AWARD ❖

This award was instituted to honor the memory of Metro (Jimmy) Baran for his many years of dedicated service and untiring efforts in working with the Juniors and the Ukrainian Orthodox League.  The purpose of the award is to recognize, with honor, a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who exceeds all others in working with the youth of the Church ON THE LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND THE NATIONAL LEVELS in their preparation as future church leaders.  This award is presented only when the National Executive Board believes it has received a nomination for an extraordinary individual.

ANNUAL CHAPTER REPORT ❖

One of the requirements of all UOL Chapters is to submit an annual report of the chapter. The information provided in the report will be printed in the Annual Report of the UOL which is distributed each year at the Convention.  The Annual Chapter Report form is enclosed in this mailing.  This information will be used to select the Senior Chapter Achievement Award recipient.  Additional pages can only be added to the Annual Report form if there is not sufficient room to list the information on the form.  Any additional sheets not in list format will be excluded from the nomination. 

DISTINGUISHED NATIONAL SERVICE AWARD ❖

This award was established in May of 2000 to recognize a member of the Senior UOL who truly exemplifies a superior sense of dedication and devotion to the League and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and has contributed excellent and sustained service to the Ukrainian Orthodox League on the national level.  A nominee must be a member of the Senior UOL in good standing at the time of his/her nomination.  Nominations must be made in writing to the Awards Committee Chairperson and should include the nominee’s involvement in the UOL and Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA.  This award will only be presented when the National Executive Board, by a two-thirds vote, determines that a candidate meets all the above-mentioned criteria.

NO LATER THAN APRIL 30, 2023.
